Containing canines and cats carefully without fences
Cats and dogs love to explore their surroundings, which is great – but unfortunately, it’s not always what’s best for them. No one likes that sinking feeling you get when you see an empty backyard, so that’s why we recommend electronic containment systems.
An electronic containment system will stop your dog digging under or jumping over your fence! Designed to contain even the most adventurous dog, these containment systems use a harmless static pulse – just like you get from your car on a dry windy day – to let your dog know that he’s safer in your yard than outside it.
So, how do these containment systems work?
Each containment system consists of three parts: the collar your dog wears, the transmitter station and the boundary wire. When you set it up, you bury the boundary wire underground – well out of the way of curious paws and noses – around the area you want your dog to be contained in, and secure the collar around your dog’s neck. You then connect each end of the wire to the base station. The setup is then complete, and all that is left to do is the training.
Can I have places where my dog can cross the wire?
If you want – this is perfect if you want to put a boundary around a sandpit or a swing set. You can twist the wire together to cancel out the signal, letting you run the wires from the fence out to the sandpit or swings, around them and back to the fence, while letting your dog run freely between the inner and outer boundaries.
All systems are supplied with a ‘How to’ DVD, plus enough wire and training flags for most suburban blocks. For acreage or larger properties additional boundary kits are available.
How to Install a Containment System
You create an in-ground hidden invisible fence using the easy-to-install boundary wire. When your dog is wearing a containment collar and approaches within a distance of between 1-3 metres of the boundary, he hears an audible warning tone. If he ventures further, your dog will receive a harmless, mild, static pulse… just enough to keep your pet safe within the boundary. Training flags help your dog recognise the parameters of his new home!
